Audition Scheduling

What will my audition be like?

**  If you’re planning to sing with the chorus / choir, you do not need to audition.  Just come join us in our rehearsals.**

Auditions will be held at the building at 4300 West on 4715 South.

Please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled appointment.

When you arrive for your audition, we’ll ask you to fill out a page with some contact information, along with information about how you’d like to participate, what vocal part you sing, etc.   Please note:  If you’re new to the audition process, please come anyway!  We’ll help you fill out the information.  If you don’t know what vocal part you sing, we can help you with that later in the audition.

At the appropriate time, you’ll be invited into another room to meet with the casting team.   We’ll ask you to tell us a little about yourself, and we’ll probably have specific questions for you.

You’ll be invited to sing one verse of a hymn of your choice.  We’ll have an accompanist for you, or you can bring your own.  We will not have speakers, etc. to connect to phones or other devices.  A Capella singing (singing without an accompanist) is discouraged.

Following your singing, we’ll ask you to read the following sides (short scenes): Side one   Side two.  We’ve posted them here to allow you to review and learn them in advance.  We don’t ask that you have them memorized.  We do ask that you know them well enough to be able to read them with feeling and conviction, as though you were standing on stage in front of an audience.

A tentative list of roles can be found here: Tentative list of characters.  Note:  we’re saying “tentative” as some of the roles can be expanded or contracted based on who auditions.

There are roles available for participants as young as 5 or 6 years old, but children and youth will require a parent to be with them for rehearsals and performances.  Auditions will be adapted as needed to accommodate those youngsters. (for example, we’d allow singing without accompaniment, and we’d have much simpler lines for them to read for us).

Please note that there will be a camera in the room recording your audition for the casting team to be able to reference later.

Additionally, please note that most participants will be asked to complete the church “Protecting Children and Youth” training prior to our first rehearsal.

If you have any questions that aren’t answered here, please use our contact us page to send the additional questions.
